Summer is here and so are the blazing days. The mercury is soaring every single day and it is getting impossible for us to perform our day to day chores. Fatigue is taking over us and we are draining ourselves out every minute. Summer brings along dehydration, weakness, sunburns, tans, illness, and many physical anomalies.
Summer is also the perfect time to go out on family picnics and vacations, beach activities. This is just the time when you can enjoy delicious sundaes, laze around and forget your exercises because you are just too tired to do so. But are these doing any good to your body? We have put together a few tips and tricks that will allow you to enjoy a good and healthy summer vacation.
Keep Hydrated – One of the most common summer problems that people visit doctors with is dehydration. In summer we tend to perspire a lot but often do not drink enough fluid to compensate. It is generally advised to take some extra care when choosing diet during summers. Have enough water and also food that will provide you with enough hydration throughout the day. Coconut water is the best option to sip on this summer.
Slip, Slop and Slide – The intensity of the summer rays take a tough toll on our skin and eyes. Minimize exposure to UV rays between 10 am to 4 pm. Slip on some light coloured clothing that will reflect the sun rays and keep your cool through the day. Slop on a generous amount of sunscreen lotion with high SPF that will protect your skin from the harmful UV rays. And for those of you who are gearing up for a beach vacation, apply sunscreen every 2-3 hours for optimum effect. Slide on a pair of UV protective goggles whenever you are going out to protect your eyes from the blazing rays of the sun.
Eat Healthy – The sun is beating you down, but you don’t beat down your digestive system. Go for light-on-the-stomach but filling foods this summer. Avoid the chips and fries that are full of saturated fats. Instead opt for healthy snacks like some veggie sticks with a hummus dip, a green sandwich, yogurt, a bowl of fruit salad, or sip on some freshly brewed juice. And ice-creams? Yes, it is impossible to resist ice-creams during summer. So a healthier option would be to choose a fruit ice-cream or make your own ice-cream at home with fruits of your choice.
Exercise – Summer times are inherently lethargic and it gets almost impossible to workout in this heat. Why not opt for some fun cooling exercises like swimming or water workout? Water workouts sound fun but they are hardly as easy as it sounds. These are high-intensity workouts working a boatload on your muscles thus burning oodles of calories. Get in great shape for your upcoming beach vacation.
Protect your Mane – The summer takes a toll on our hair too. Oil your hair well with olive oil that helps resist UV damage while supplying the essential fatty acids to the scalp. If you are fond of swimming, use anti-chlorine shampoo and conditioner to protect your hair. Minimise the use of heating tools like straighteners and curlers.
Protect your Skin – Our skin is the largest organ of the body that get the most exposure to the harmful UV rays of the sun. Take special care of your skin by using a high SPF sunscreen, take a cool shower, exfoliate and hydrate your skin. Eat foods that will provide hydration to your skin from within. Fresh fruits and veggies are your best friend this summer. Spritz your face and body with a cooling mist when out in the hot sun.
Don’t let the summer heat take a toll on your health. Enjoy summer! Eat and live healthy!
