Hi Claudia, there has been much talk about maintaining calorie count to keep a watch on one’s weight. However, for me to do that successfully, I need to know how many calories I can consume for my age, gender and lifestyle in a day.
The energy requirements vary per gender, age, height, weight and overall physical activity.
- For a desk job (E.g. Accountant, lawyer, MyDoc employee)
Women require between 1600 to 1800 calories per day and men need a little bit more, between 2000 to 2100 calories per day.
- For strenuous job roles (E.g. Construction, courier)
Even for a strenuous job, the number of calories can vary extensively. For women, it may vary between 2000 to 2800 calories per day. And for men between 2500 to 3500 calories per day.
On average, every male requires about 2200 calories a day and every female requires 1800 calories a day.
